Michael Leibson is a music consultant, professional transcriber, composer and music educator. His clients include many of Canada's music publishers and record companies.
Michael's life as a composer began with a singer-songwriter's contract with MCA Music (1968), led to long-term studies in composition at both the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto) and the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, and continues with compositions and analyses of contemporary classical music and jazz.
As a music educator, Michael teaches music theory and composition to both classical and non-classical musicians. Besides teaching privately, he has also taught harmony at Havergal College, composition at the Thornhill Chamber Music Institute, music theory at the Toronto Waldorf School, produced the Music Theory Seminars at Victory Drive Studio (Toronto), and designed and led songwriters' workshops for Blue Skies In The Community, the Blue Skies Music Festival, and the Ottawa Folklore Centre. He also teaches both classical and jazz music theory internationally, via the internet.
Along the way, Michael has also been a freelance musician (guitar and keyboards) and arranger, performing all genres of music in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
